Cont. Streetwise Secrets to Prevent Conflict
4. Communicate, communicate, communicate. Many people can
think of only two ways to manage conflict: fighting or avoiding the problem.
Get the facts straight, brainstorm all ideas that might help resolve the argument,
and discuss the pros, cons, and consequences. Meet it head on, but in a smart
way.
5. Stop playing the blame game! Don't point fingers or be
dogmatic. Look at your perspective as just one of many. Listen hard to what
is being said, respect other peoples views, and try and find a win-win meeting
point.
6. "Flip the script." By this I mean, always do the unexpected.
There is no better way to defuse conflict than by completely screwing with your
opponents head! And I don't mean that in a bad way. Most of us are conditioned
to react to certain triggers, and our reaction is usually very predictable.
So do the unpredictable and take back the advantage.
